A summer business
AC repair is a seasonal rush. For most of the year the phone is steady. Then a heat wave arrives and everyone's compressor is tested at once. The calls that come in are urgent: a house that won't cool down, a family with a newborn, an elderly parent in the heat. People call the first company they can reach.
A number that spells COOL or CHILL is easy to recall in that moment, and it says what you do before anyone answers.
Where to put it
- On the indoor air handler and next to the thermostat, where people look when the air turns warm.
- Service stickers after every tune-up, so next summer's breakdown call comes back to you.
- Van doors. In a heat wave your van is parked in a new driveway every hour.
When you can't answer
On a busy day in July you may miss more calls than you take. Calls to the number ring the phone you already use and go to your normal voicemail when you are on a roof or in an attic. Texts arrive as email, so a customer can send the address and the unit's brand for you to read between jobs.
AC repair or full HVAC?
If you also do furnaces and heat pumps, the HVAC ideas page covers year-round heating and cooling. Short words such as AIR and COOL are the easiest to get as local numbers.
Which of these words you can get
The shorter the word, the more numbers can spell it. Toll-free is one national pool, so a word that is taken in your area code can still be free there.
